The client’s vision for the B52 project at Budapeshta Street in Sofia was to develop a distinctive,
modern, high-tech building that maximises the health and wellbeing of the occupants by
bringing them closer to nature.
Working closely with the design team, mstep was responsible for providing coordinated
ventilation (MVHR) layouts for 19 residential units and assisting the Contractor with the
procurement and subsequent installation.
MVHR is a whole house ventilation system that both supplies and extracts air throughout a
property. If offers a balanced low energy ventilation solution for new dwellings and reuses
up to 95% of the heat that would otherwise be lost.
Introducing the controlled mechanical ventilation provides the opportunity to filter the
incoming air and to save energy: by providing a sealed environment and delivering
controlled volume of air tempered by MVHR considerable savings can be achieved
compared to a porous envelope where fresh air is delivered through openable doors and
CT52 had great success selling the apartments off plan primarily due to their visionary
approach to health and well-being – a first in Sofia – and are planning further developments
focused on people.
