mstep was commissioned by mitie on behalf of essex county council to assess the potential for decarbonisation strategies to reduce the reliance on fossil fuel energy for galleywood infant school, layer de la haye primary school, ongar library and waltham abbey library. 

​

The focus of the first stage of this project was to reduce carbon emissions from the current baseline through targeted options for each building.

 

We carried out extensive thermal modelling to establish opportunities and the potential impact of envelope improvements and decarbonisation interventions such as introduction of ground and air source heat pumps, improvements to systems’ efficiencies, inclusion of building control systems and LED lighting.

By implementing these measures, a reduction of carbon emissions of the sites can be expected in the region of 70% compared to current.
