located in kensington, a residential property that underwent a major restoration and rebuild. the property has a retained front façade and flank walls to be improved for high thermal performance. the rest of the façade is to be new with high performing thermal properties.

the client wanted to achieve an exceptionally low energy performance house through manipulation of the envelope only. mstep provided six envelope options for the building based on a number of building regulations including LETI, Future Homes Standard, Part L and Passivhaus.

a thermal computer model was created to assess the different envelope properties and to see how the heat loss of the building was affected by the different variations of the building fabric thermal properties.
