concept design
as part of the king’s college london framework, it is proposed that the server room located at level -1 be converted to a shared server space with a new lab area with work benches to enable researchers to work on the servers.
during the feasibility phase, mstep was tasked with defining a comprehensive scope of work for three proposals, each with increasing complexity, along with corresponding budget estimates and timelines.
after discussions with the college, the proposals were refined to a single option, which was further developed in collaboration with its architects to reach stage 2 design. this design features a cooling capacity of 150kw for the server lab, supported by two chillers that supply newly installed downflow computer room air handling (CRAH) units. in the laboratory spaces, small wall-mounted VRV units are suggested for heating and cooling, powered by a reversible air source heat pump (ASHP). an MVHR unit will supply fresh air, connecting to the existing local ductwork.
