the Royal Veterinary College, founded in 1791, is located in camden, london. the college grove halls consists of three blocks of flats that serve as accommodation for students. each block has three levels, containing 6 to 7 ensuite bedrooms along with shared kitchen facilities. although constructed in the early 2000s, the building is well-insulated.
mstep provided an analysis of MEP concept design alternatives to establish an economical approach for heating and hot water generation, which would also decrease energy usage, improve comfort levels, and reduce carbon emissions.
an assessment was made of both ground-source and air-source heat pumps for heating solutions. given the spatial restrictions, it was concluded that air-source heat pumps would be more effective for heating and cooling the occupied spaces.
additionally, the installation of MVHR systems was advised for each floor to improve air quality and ensure more consistent internal temperatures.
