tooting bec lido, the largest freshwater swimming pool in the uk, spans 100 yards in length and 33 yards in width, containing 1 million gallons of cold water. the south london swimming club aimed to enhance the lido's sustainability by adopting advanced environmental systems.
in partnership with SLSC and WR-AP, mstep crafted a comprehensive design for the MEP systems and energy strategy for tooting bec lido. mstep recommended the most carbon-efficient solution with minimal disruption to achieve the club's sustainability objectives.
the design involves utilising the existing volcano pool filtration system to capture additional free heat, which will be circulated through a water source heat pump to provide heating for the changing rooms and hot water for the showers. furthermore, additional carbon offsetting strategies include the installation of roof-integrated pv solar cells paired with battery storage to ensure that solar energy is accessible to the Lido facilities even on overcast days.
